Be Green: Green Community Briefs:

The City of Santa Monica will be holding a meeting on greening part of a parking lot on Barnard Way north of Ocean Park Boulevard. The Beach Greening Project will have a multitude of benefits for the community. Santa Monica resident John Glouchevitch recently finished a 77-day wilderness adventure course in the Pacific Northwest, which included rock climbing, backcountry camping, knot tying, canoeing, hiking, sailing and more.

Over the past five years, two million Stonyfield Farm yogurt containers have been turned into Preserve products, which include toothbrushes, razors and tongue cleaners. Says Recycline (makers of Preserve) president Eric Hudson, “Many people don’t realize that since plastics are made with valuable resources like natural gas and oil, using recycled materials is one very important step in reducing our reliance on foreign oil and gas.” Hudson adds, “Using recycled materials also reduces the cost to our environment caused by the exploration, mining, reprocessing and transportation of these precious resources. In fact, the Natural Resource Defense Council reports that making products from recycled plastics vs. non-recycled plastics reduces pollution and energy usage by 70-80 percent.”
