SMC Women Rally, But Can’t Catch Up:

The Santa Monica College women’s basketball team fell far behind LA Valley in its Western State Conference Southern Division opening game January 9, rallying strongly but falling short, 88-75.

The rally was keyed by guards Dakiya Covington, Zedra Slaton, and Ashley Abrahams.

Valley had a 43-23 lead at halftime but SMC increased its defensive pressure and began cutting down the deficit. A three-point basket by Abrahams reduced it to 62-52, and Slaton’s basket brought the Corsairs within eight points, but that’s as close as it got.
