Brentwood’s Duckworth Dominates Crossroads:

It was a grand night for Crossroads, hosting its annual Extravaganza January 11, but Brentwood’s Jasmine Duckworth was the dominant player in the girls’ varsity basketball game.

Duckworth, who is heading to Princeton, scored 23 points to lead Brentwood’s 62-46 victory. She made five field goals and 13 of 14 free throws.

In the absence of Lauren Edwards, who is out for the season with a knee injury, Duckworth has become the team’s star player. Several times when she was at the free throw line Brentwood rooters chanted “MVP.”

“She’s the best player we’ve gone against this season,” said Crossroads assistant Al Buck.

The game was close throughout the first half but the Eagles, who play in a higher division, wore down the Roadrunners and took advantage of mistakes.

Brentwood has a mere 7-9 record but has played a difficult schedule, including tournament appearances.

One loss was to powerful Windward, 65-39, when Duckworth and Leslie Schots each scored 11 points.
