Chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken announce final service set for Valentine’s Day

Socalo, the beloved Santa Monica restaurant known for its modern take on regional Mexican cuisine, has announced it will close its doors after more than five years in operation.

In a message shared with the community on social media, the restaurant cited a series of extraordinary challenges that have compounded in recent years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, industrywide disruptions from the Hollywood strikes, and the impact of the Palisades and Eaton fires. The owners said those circumstances created conditions unlike any they had previously faced in decades in the restaurant business.

Socalo opened in December 2019.

The message went on to say, “We invite you to join us one last time (or two) for a round of margaritas, tacos, and the warmth of community that has always been at the heart of Socalo.”

The owners expressed gratitude to their staff, neighbors, partners at the Gateway Hotel, and the guests who supported the restaurant throughout its run.

Socalo will remain open through Saturday, Feb. 14, with its final dinner service scheduled for Valentine’s Day, saying it will be “a celebration of the love we’ve shared with all of you.” The Instagram post was signed by chefs and co-owners Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, along with the Socalo team.
