Plans call for eight-story housing development with affordable units and ground-floor retail on 26th Street.
Housing is being proposed for a site now occupied by offices near Santa Monica’s Water Garden, according to plans recently submitted to city planners for review and as reported by Urbanize Los Angeles.
The application, filed by property owner 1655 Property LLC, seeks approval to demolish an existing low-rise office complex at 1655 26th Street and replace it with an eight-story residential development. The proposal calls for 401 apartments above approximately 2,070 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
Plans show the project would include semi-subterranean parking for 419 vehicles and a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. Forty-one apartments would be reserved as affordable housing for moderate-, low-, and very low-income households, offered in exchange for density bonus incentives.
The building is being designed by AC Martin and is described in project materials as a contemporary podium-style structure. Exterior materials would include stucco, brick veneer, and metal elements surrounding a central courtyard.
Additional amenities shown in the plans include a rooftop deck. The proposal will undergo review by Santa Monica planning staff before being scheduled for public hearings.
