Alert: Police Blotter: For the Week of July 2-8, 2010

Smoked Out

On Thursday, June 24, at 10:00 p.m. Officers patrolling an unspecified area in the City of Santa Monica when they decided to enact the “jay-walking” law and stop a pair of individuals for illegally crossing the street. As the cops were talking with these two guys a third man approached and asked the cops if they had a cigarette that they could give to this third man. The officers informed this man that they did not smoke, and so could not oblige. This response was evidently unsatisfactory because the man continued to ask for a cigarette, and generally interrupt the cops while they were conducting their business. The cops then asked this guy to back off and cease these interruptions, but he would not, and proceeded to further involve himself in the “jay-walking” investigation. Not surprisingly, the cops’ patience ran out and they arrested this 24-year-old homeless man for obstruction of justice. Bail: $10,000.

And In The Red Corner

On Friday, June 26, at 5:35 p.m. Officers were patrolling in the area of the 2000 block of Lincoln Boulevard when they noticed, and heard a woman yelling, and also challenging another woman to a fight (throwing down the gauntlet?). The officers pulled their police vehicle into a parking lot and proceeded to prevent the yelling and challenging woman from making a charge into the other female (bullish behavior?). The officers then attempted to detain this woman, but in doing so encountered some resistance from her in the form of pushing, and some attempts to leave the scene. Officers persevered however, overcame her contrary behavior, and arrested, and booked her for challenging someone to fight in public and obstruction of justice. Her bail is $10,000.

Quick Silver Theft

On Saturday, June 26, at 6:40 p.m. Officers had been informed by a shop owner that a couple of guys had been stealing clothing from his store, known as Quick Silver, and so these officers went in search of these suspected thieves, and very quickly struck gold (or silver?) when they saw two guys sitting on a bus bench in the 200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. Not only were they sitting there, they were also sorting through various items of clothing. The cops detained this pair, and further investigation showed that as well as items from Quick Silver, there were examples from two other stores, namely, CCS, and The Gap. The total value of these clothes was $163.26. These guys, a male juvenile aged 15 of Hawthorne, and a man aged 18 of Los Angeles were arrested for burglary, possession of stolen goods, and conspiracy. The juvenile was subsequently released to his guardian and the adult had bail set at $20,000.
