Santa Monica High will begin its baseball season Friday, February 29 at Westchester High in the Royal Tournament, which was formerly the Westside Tournament.
Playing in the same tournament, the Vikings will travel to Oxnard High Saturday.
New head coach Rob Duron said practice time has been limited because Samohi’s outstanding soccer team is using the field as it progresses through the CIF playoffs. As a result, Duron hasn’t made decisions about his lineup or pitching rotation.
Samohi was 24-10 last season and reached the CIF championship game at Dodger Stadium with a senior-dominated team. Coach Kevin Brockway then became an assistant coach at West Los Angeles College.
