If confirmed, Amster will oversee Los Angeles Animal Services, which operates shelters and animal welfare programs across the nation’s second-largest city.
Karen Bass has appointed Gabrielle Amster as general manager of the city’s animal services department, a move that now heads to the Los Angeles City Council for approval.
If confirmed, Amster will oversee Los Angeles Animal Services, which operates shelters and animal welfare programs across the nation’s second-largest city.
Amster has worked in animal welfare for nearly two decades, including leadership roles in nonprofit and municipal organizations. Most recently, she was affiliated with Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, where she helped expand adoption programs and access to veterinary services, according to the mayor’s office.
In a statement, Bass said the department requires experienced leadership to improve services and animal care outcomes. Amster said she plans to work with staff, volunteers and partner organizations to support animal welfare efforts across Los Angeles.
