Santa Monica police are seeking assistance in identifying property that may have been stolen in recent residential burglaries.
On Wednesday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Franklin Avenue. The suspect was gone when officers arrived, but one Joaquin Palmer was stopped a short distance from the original location. A field show-up was conducted with witnesses, and Palmer was positively identified as the suspect who had attempted to break into the home in question; he was arrested for attempted residential burglary.
Because there had been a number of similar burglaries in Santa Monica in the month of March, Santa Monica Police Detectives prepared a search warrant that was signed by a judge to search Palmer’s home and cars. Detectives recovered numerous items of property that have been positively identified in connection with an additional eight residential burglaries. Detectives also recovered other property that has not yet been linked to a particular crime. Detectives are also researching pawn receipts found for property connected to recent cases.
The LA County District Attorney’s office has filed nine felony counts of residential burglary against Palmer with a special allegation of a third strike. Palmer has numerous prior arrests and convictions for burglary, robbery, and rape. More charges may be filed if additional victims are identified.
