This year’s Read-a-Thon theme is “Vote For Reading” which coincides with the Presidential Election Year. The three week long event kicked off with a school-wide pajama night on October 1st. Students, teachers, and families wore their pajamas and brought their favorite books to read together. During the Read-a-Thon Will Rogers students focus on and get excited about reading, and learn to increase their reading stamina while having fun with their families and friends. Each night students record the number of minutes they have read and get sponsors to support their efforts. These donations are then used to fund various enrichment programs such as art, vocal music, as well as classroom materials. Also, once a week the principal is thrilled to read to students before school in the library. Will Rogers is excited to see the student’s growing motivation and interest in reading instead of watching television and playing video games.
