Architects To Perform Free Concert At Santa Monica Main Library Saturday:

Enjoy music from a group of architects at a free concert At Santa Monica's Main Library on Saturday night.

A free concert featuring architects will be held at the main branch of the Santa Monica Public Library this Saturday night.

Unfrozen Music, produced by Craig Shimahara of Shimahara Illustration, is set to be a fun family community event featuring an eclectic array of music from classical to blues.

This is the fifth annual Unfrozen Music concert, performed by a collection of LA architects.

Sam Lubell, California Editor, The Architect’s Newspaper, will once again preside over the free event that plays with the relationship between the design of architecture and the composition of music.

Lubell said he was pleased to be a part of the event.

“Architects work within a fascinating paradox of rigorous precision and free-flowing creativity,” Lubell said. “I always love seeing this duality played out on stage, and I never cease to be amazed by designers’ wealth of talent.”

Doors open at 6:30 pm with open seating available for 140 guests.

The annual concert series is named Unfrozen Music in reference to a quote from nineteenth century German theorist, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who stated, “I consider architecture frozen music.”

“Architects are passionate people, and that passion often pours out through multiple channels of expression,” said Shimahara. “After listening to an architect play a violin solo, it’s fun to imagine what kind of buildings he or she might design.”
