SMC Exhibit to Honor Emmy-Winning Costume Designer

She Will Be Present at the Opening Reception to Share Insights as Both a Costume Designer and Illustrator

The Santa Monica College Fashion and Photography Department will host a special exhibit titled “Fab-u-lous!” to honor the distinguished Emmy Award-winning costume designer Brenda Cooper for her three decades of contributions to the iconic 90s TV series, “The Nanny,” starring Fran Drescher.

This exhibit, a visual retrospective showcasing the ensembles designed by Cooper for the show, is scheduled to run from Oct. 28 to Nov. 15. The event will take place at the SMC Photography Gallery, situated on the second floor of Drescher Hall on the primary SMC campus at 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. An opening reception is planned for Saturday, October 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to don their favorite ‘Fran Fine’ costumes.

Brenda Cooper will be present at the event to share her insights as both a costume designer and illustrator. She will offer a captivating behind-the-scenes glimpse into her creative process and the distinctive “fashion formulas” that defined Miss Fine’s spirited style. At the opening, guests will have the opportunity to meet Cooper and explore her new book, “The Silhouette Solution – Using What You Have to Get the Look You Want.”

The curation of the gallery, comprising illustrations, clothing items, and original Polaroids, is a collaborative effort between SMC fashion professors Jemi Armstrong, Lorrie Ivas, and Wynn Armstrong.
