“Transformers: The Last Knight” Ironically Takes First in Box Office

“Transformers: The Last Knight” opened in first place at the North American box office this weekend, taking in $44.6 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to final numbers provided Monday by the industry tracking group comScore.

The fifth installment in Michael Bay’s special effects franchise opened Wednesday, and has taken in $68.4 million domestically so far.

“Wonder Woman” edged out “Cars 3” for second place, taking in $24.9 million to the animated film’s $24 million.

In fourth place was the shark thriller “47 Meters Down,” which took in $7 million.

Fifth place went to “The Mummy,” with $6 million.

Rounding out the 10 most popular movies in the United States and Canada this weekend were the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez On Me”  ($5.8 million), “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” ($5.3 million), “Rough Night” ($4.7 million), “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” ($4.2 million) and “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” ($3 million).
