California Coastal Cleanup Day This Saturday, September 15:

Coastal Clean-Up DaySaturday

Heal the Bay holds its annual California Coastal Cleanup Day this Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon with more than 60 coastal and inland sites across Santa Monica and Los Angeles. Last year, more than 67,000 volunteers from California removed 676,768 pounds of trash and 115,773 pounds of recyclable waste.

Volunteers will be able to see for themselves the amount of trash generated in their community and learn how to be part of the solution to ocean pollution. A beach clean-up will be held at lifeguard tower 1550 with free parking in the lot north of the Santa Monica Pier with a parking pass printed from the Coastal Cleanup Day website.

Another cleanup site will be at the end of Bay Street. This new Santa Monica cleanup site sometimes known as the “Inkwell,” was a popular beach hangout for African Americans from the 1920s to the early 1960s.

Tower 27 is another location with limited free parking at the lot off of Barnard. Print your parking pass and bring it to exchange for a free parking pass for this lot while spots are available. To take part in the Santa Monica Pier Dive, you must be dive certified. Call Eco Dive Center at 310.398.5759 to reserve a spot on the roster.
