Saint John’s Health Center Named One Of Nation’s Top 50 Best Hospitals:

Healthgrades, a leading online health consumer resource, has named Santa Monica’s Saint John’s Health Center one of the nation’s 50 best hospitals.

This distinction, which was achieved based on clinical performance over seven years, places Saint John’s in the top one percent of hospitals nationwide, out of the nearly 4,500 hospitals evaluated.

Paul Natterson, President of Saint John’s medical staff, said Saint John’s remains dedicated to providing the best possible care to its patients in a healing and comforting environment.

“As a physician, I am able to provide personalized care knowing that I have the support of our amazing nurses and staff that take care of my patients like they would their own family,” Natterson said. “Being named one of America’s Top 50 Hospitals for the seventh year in a row only further supports what I’ve always seen at Saint John’s: it’s dedicated to taking care of its patients.”

The previously released “American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation,” highlighted that significant variation in outcomes can exist not only across our nation but specifically within a particular region.

For example, out of the 37 hospitals that were evaluated for treatment of Coronary Interventional Procedures (Angioplasty/Stent) in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, CA Metro Division, there was a wide variation in hospital quality as measured by risk adjusted mortality rates (from 0.6 percent on the low end to 4.4 percent on the high end). Saint John’s is among the hospitals with the lowest risk-adjusted mortality rates providing patients in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, CA Metro Division with measurably superior quality of care.

While many of the nation’s hospitals are eligible to be on this list, Saint John’s was one of two out of 14 eligible in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, CA Metro Division to receive this designation.
