Santa Monica police arrested a 31-year-old Anaheim man for firstly riding illegally on a sidewalk on Sunday, Nov. 4, then secondly for possessing a bunch of burglary tools in his backpack.

At 2:35 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department who were on patrol in the area of Second Street and Colorado Avenue saw a man riding a bicycle in the 1500 block of 2nd Street on the west sidewalk, in violation of a Santa Monica Municipal Code.

The officers attempted to stop this individual at this intersection, but the man refused and sped off westbound past The Lobster Restaurant and onto the bike path.

A pursuit ensued with the officers turning on their sirens and lights and this chase continued for several hundred yards. Eventually the man acquiesced and pulled over on his bicycle.

The man was arrested and when the officers searched his backpack they found the following items: Several vehicle keys, cellphones, gift cards, a couple of dozen hotel key cards, and some small hand tools.

The possession of these items qualified the man for charges of receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools. In addition to these charges the man was charged with riding on the sidewalk, resisting officers and a parole violation.

Bail was set at $10,000.
