It wasn’t a good day for the Corsairs this past Saturday. Santa Monica College turned the ball over four times, including losing three fumbles in going down in defeat to San Bernardino 42-21 at Corsairs Stadium.
The loss drops Santa Monica College to 1-2 for the season. The Corsairs hit the road this Saturday to take on West Los Angeles. After defeating Chaffey College the previous week, the Corsairs didn’t get going until late against San Bernardino.
That was pretty much the difference in the game. San Bernardino outscored Santa Monica 27-7 in the first to take firm control of the game by intermission. After San Bernardino went up 14-0, Santa Monica quarterback Steven Hamm connected with Danavian Clay for a 65-yard pass play to get the Corsairs back in the game.
Unfortunately for the Corsairs, San Bernardino had more offensive explosion on the day. Despite Melvin Davis rushing for two second half touchdowns, it would not be enough to send the visitors away with a defeat.
Davis scored on a 16-yard run in the third quarter. He then added an eight-yard touchdown scamper in the final period. The loss dropped Santa Monica College to a #9 ranking in the California Community College Athletic Association’s American Division Poll.
