Albee’s The Goat at the Taper:

Edward Albee’s The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?, directed by Warner Shook, is now at the Center Theare Group/Mark Taper Forum at the Music Center.

The Tony, New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award-winning play will run through March 20.

The cast includes Brian Kerwin, Cynthia Mace, Patrick J. Adams and James Eckhouse. The set design is by Michael Olich, lighting by Mary Louise Geiger, costumes by Frances Kenny and sound by Jon Gottlieb.

In The Goat, the stability of what appears to be an ideal family is rocked when the man of the house tells his best friend that he has fallen madly in love with a goat.

As Albee tells it, what follows is both funny and tragic, as the characters passionately debate the limits of compassion, understanding and tolerance, leading them to question the nature of love itself.

When the play opened on Broadway, in March 2002, Ben Brantley wrote in The New York Times, “Four decades after Virginia Woolf sent shock waves through the mainstream theatre, Mr. Albee still asks questions that no other major American dramatist dares to ask.” For tickets call (213) 628-2772, online at www.MarkTaperForum.org or in person at the Center Theatre Group box office.
