Sponsored by TEN, an adult cable TV channel, “XXX: 30 Porn Star Portraits,” an exhibition by renowned photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, opens at Bergman Turner Projects, Gallery E1, Bergamot Station, on Friday, April 1. It will run through April 30.
The exhibit features dual portraits of 30 porn stars, ranging from Jenna Jameson to gay adult film star Michael Lucas, in their everyday clothes and without clothing.
Greenfield-Sanders typically shoots artists, novelists, actors and politicians. 700 of his portraits of art world figures were recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art. The new exhibit is a study of people who exist simultaneously in the forefront of viewers’ fantasies and beyond society’s bounds.The portraits in the exhibit have been published in a coffee table book, which also contains essays by Salman Rushdie, John Malkovich, Gore Vidal and others on both the show and the evolving porn industry. Greenfield-Sanders will be present Friday to sign copies of the book.
