Samohi Civic Rights Coalition To Hold Historic Event:

The Santa Monica High School Civil Rights Coalition will hold a historic event in historic Barnum Hall on the Samohi campus on Friday, June 17.

After a screening of the most comprehensive documentary film on the Civil Rights movement in America, the 14-part Eyes on the Prize, Dr. Terrence Roberts, who was the first African American student to graduate from Little Rock Central High School, will speak.

When Arkansas officials refused to desegregate the school, then-President Dwight Eisenhower ordered the National Guard into Little Rock to escort Roberts and the other black students into the school.

Everyone is invited to attend the event. The student group will serve pizza and refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the screening is scheduled to begin at 6. Parking is available in the north Samohi lot off Olympic.Parking, admission and food are all free.
