For the eleventh year, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce will welcome new teachers to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and the area’s private schools at its annual “Education Celebration.”
Sponsored by US Bank, the celebration will be held Thursday, October 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Le Merigot Hotel.
The guest speaker will be director, actor, and TV personality, Joe Regalbutto. He is best-known to television audiences for his role as Frank Fontana on “Murphy Brown.” Now primarily a TV director, he has most recently worked on “The George Lopez Show.”
The Chamber of Commerce encourages businesses to support area schools in order, in its words, “to help make the connection between academic studies and real world applications.”
“The Education Celebration is a great way to introduce new educators to the leaders in our business community,” said Kathryn B. Dodson, executive director of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce. “The event provides a unique opportunity where teachers and businesspeople can create an important dialogue for sharing ideas about education and the workplace, while acknowledging the many ways in which teachers make a difference and shape the lives of our children—the leaders of tomorrow.”
More than 150 educators from public and private schools, pre-K through Santa Monica College are expected to attend this year’s event. The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1925.
