Young Musicians Reach for Stars:

The 58th Annual “Stairway of the Stars” concert, presented by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, took place at the Civic Auditorium on Thursday and Friday nights, March 22 and 23. Approximately 1,000 elementary through high school students performed, showcasing the best of the district’s students, teachers and music curriculum with orchestra, jazz and vocal performances.

According to Terry Sakow, Director of Bands at Samohi, “SMMUSD is a nationally ranked [music] program. Our musicians play differently. It is hard to articulate but our students have the ‘muse.’”

This year, the guest conductor was Mr. Lawrence Stoffel and the 2007 honor award recipient was Mr. Zen Gesner, a SMMUSD alumnus and a successful actor and producer.
