Softball Roundup:

Imagine if you had a .622 batting average and it was on the decline.

Well, that’s what happened to Venice High’s Danielle Mestas in the last two games when her .633 average was reduced by 11 points.

However Mestas, also the star pitcher, has led the Gondoliers to a 10-2-1 record, which is the best on the Westside.

Venice is 3-0 in the Western League following an 8-0 victory at Palisades and a 7-4 win over Fairfax. Earlier, Venice had begun league play by defeating Westchester.

St. Monica played one game last week, a 9-0 loss to St. Joseph of Lakewood. Neither Samohi nor Crossroads had a game but the Roadrunners are off to a 4-0 start bolstered by the arrival of five players from their CIF championship basketball team.
