Interviews Begin For SMC Basketball Coach:

Santa Monica College still doesn’t have a mens’ basketball coach two months after Jesse Teplitzky resigned, but the Corsairs are getting closer.

The selection committee has sorted through a multitude of applications, and a half dozen candidates have been chosen for interviews.

That process is expected to last approximately two weeks.

Teplitzky was at SMC for one year and guided the Corsairs to their first winning season in four years. Then he received a far better offer from Cerritos College.

Teplitzky’s top assistant, Joe Cascio, has been running the SMC summer basketball program and is a candidate to be the new coach.

The identity of the other finalists is not known.
