Doctors Without Borders, A Refugee Camp
In The Heart of the City, October 31-November 2
9am-5:30pm, free, Parking Lot 1, north,
Santa Monica Pier, 800.490.0773.
The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders is presenting this unusual event, a recreation of a refugee camp. In a space of 8,000 square feet, visitors will have the opportunity to experience a refugee camp’s facilities, such as a cholera treatment center, a health clinic, emergency refugee housing, and nutrition and vaccination tents. Doctors, nurses, and logisticians will act as guides. The exhibit has traveled to 13 countries in the last two years. It should be a great educational opportunity.
Dia de Los Muertos, November 1, 7:30pm, free

Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican celebration that combines remembrance of the departed with folk art and music revolving around a world of “calaveras,” or skeleton people. SPARC’s celebration will feature an invocation, offerings at an altar, traditional sweets like pan dulce and champurado, and music, plus the opening of the art exhibit “Death of the Bush Era: What Next?”
