Pacifica Christian High of Santa Monica has won the Mulholland League championship in its first season of baseball.The school located at 18th and Wilshire has been successful in basketball and volleyball but didn’t field a baseball team until this season, playing several home games at the North Venice Little League field.Pacifica Christian, which lost the first game it played to Wildwood, 7-6, defeated the same opponent, 16-0 on Thursday, May 7.Freshman Kevin Hammer pitched the shutout and freshman Keenen Pierandozzi-howes hit a grand slam home run.The Seawolves had two regular season games remaining before beginning the CIF playoffs. They completed league play with an 11-1 record following a 17-5 win over Westview. Then they lost a non-league game to Cornerstone Christian of Camarillo, 9-1.Pacifica Christian’s overall record is 12-3. Pierandozzi-howes is the team’s leading hitter at .556.Julian Chavez is the head coach and the successful athletic program is under the direction of Kevin Kelsey, who is also the head basketball coach.This is expected to be Pacifica Christian’s last year in the Mulholland League. It will face new league opponents next season.
