California Board of Accountancy Welcomes New Board Members
The California Board of Accountancy (Board) has announced the appointment of two new members, Ms. Diana Bell and Andrea Valdez, Esq. Ms. Bell was appointed September 17, 2009 by the Senate Rules Committee and Ms. Valdez was appointed September 30, 2009 by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass. The Board consists of eight public members and seven members who are Certified Public Accountants.
Diana Bell currently serves as a director for the Northern California Girl Scouts, the Peralta Community Colleges Foundation Board in Oakland, CA, and on the Dean’s Advisory Board for Michigan State University’s College of Natural Science. Until her retirement in May, 2007, Ms. Bell was a Senior Vice President for Hewlett-Packard Company based in Silicon Valley. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University, a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from Clark Atlanta University, and completed an executive MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
Andrea Valdez is a consultant in the Advanced Marketing Department of Transamerica Insurance & Investment Group (TIIG). She provides guidance and technical support regarding the use and taxation of life insurance in a variety of estate planning and premium financing scenarios, and is actively involved in writing, designing and presenting continuing education seminars for financial and insurance professionals, accountants and attorneys. A resident of Santa Monica, Ms. Valdez also volunteers legal services to low-income seniors in Los Angeles at Bet Tzedek – House of Justice and to cancer survivors at the Cancer Legal Resource Center. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Literature. Ms. Valdez later received her Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law.
