Stability Is A Key To Venice’s Success:

If you’re wondering how Venice High fields successful football teams year after year, look no further than the head coach.

Angelo Gasca established his credentials as a Venice High and Santa Monica College quarterback. Then he added to his resume by guiding a succession of Venice High powerhouses.

When the coach has longevity, the program has credibility and players know what is expected. They do things right or they don’t play.

The players do well and graduate. New ones then arrive to continue the tradition.

This season returning all-league quarterback Alfonso Medina runs the offense and Jonathan McNeil is a linebacker attracting attention from Division 1 schools.

In the last few years Kenny Easley was the star running back and he’s now producing at El Camino College, and Curtis McNeal was the next star and he’s now at USC.

But a big, productive offensive line is another reason for the Gondoliers’ success this season, which includes a 35-0 victory at Palisades Friday night.

Palisades, which has had injury problems, has a 0-7 record. Venice leads the Western League and Palisades is last.

A league contender could be Westchester, which defeated Fairfax last Friday. Venice is at Fairfax Friday and hosts Westchester the next week.
