Tree Lifted to SM Place:

A mature specimen olive tree from Porterville, California was transplanted to its new home in downtown Santa Monica and lifted three stories off the ground Tuesday morning. The tree will be a centerpiece of the project-topping rooftop dining deck at the new Santa Monica Place, which is due to open in August 2010.

Now under construction, Santa Monica Place is a three-level, open-air, 550,000 square-foot retail and dining destination located just two blocks from the beach and adjacent to the popular Third Street Promenade. Project anchors include two new department stores, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom.
