On Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:46 p.m., officers went to the area of 900 Olympic Boulevard in response to an assault with a deadly weapon report. When they arrived they spoke with a witness who said that the victim in this case had returned to a vacant garage in the area with some food for a group of people who had gathered there, in order to take shelter from the rain. The suspect had then grabbed this witness around the head in an aggressive manner, and the victim had tried to stop this from happening, but the suspect had responded by striking the victim in the face.
The suspect continued striking the victim in the face with his closed fist, and had appeared to have something like a rock held in his hand at the time. The victim made attempts to get away, but the suspect continued to strike him. The witness then stopped a passing motorist and requested that this motorist call the police. At that point the suspect ran off, and the victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital with lacerations to his face and neck.
The officers then rolled into action, and located this alleged rock-yielding suspect a short distance away. This 37-year-old transient was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
