Animo’s Four Home Runs Eliminate Jaguars: New Roads Falls in CIF Quarterfinals

INGLEWOOD – A baseball team can’t win a game with only one player.

But the performance of pitcher Damian Garcia played a huge part in the Amimo Leadership Aztec Eagles knocking off the New Roads Jaguars 13-8 on Friday.

Garcia only gave up four runs on the mound (after Animo already had an 11-1 lead) while crushing two home runs from the plate.

Quinn Barbini scored twice and had an RBI in his final game in a Jaguars uniform.

“I’m really proud of our kids,” said New Roads coach Sean Brookes. “We had a great season. Coastal League champs, I’m proud of that. And I’m proud of the way we came out and competed. The kids have been working hard since September and it showed.

“They showed some heart today and some guts and I like that. Moving forward, next year I know I have kids that can battle and we can build from this.”

New Roads finished the season 18-6 with a league title and a berth in the CIF Quarterfinals.
