Equality California (EQCA) has announced its endorsement of Assemblymember Betsy Butler’s re-election to the California State Assembly.
Equality California is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to ensuring the rights of California’s LGBT population.
They advocate legislation to promote civil rights and have been among the leading advocates of marriage equality in California.
Butler, who has been a key advocate for equality and civil rights for over twenty years, is now entering her sixth year on the board of Equality California.
“Equality California is proud to give our endorsement to Assemblymember Butler,” said Suzy Jones, Chair of the Equality California Candidate Political Action Committee. “Her 100 percent pro-LGBT voting record clearly demonstrates that she has been, and continues to be, a key ally and partner in our efforts to secure full and lasting equality for LGBT people in California.”
In her decades of work on the front lines fighting for equality and justice for all, Assemblymember Butler has never wavered from her commitment to the LGBT community. Butler has raised tens of thousands of dollars for multiple causes, events and LGBT candidates.
She has also lobbied and participated in marches and demonstrations, assisted in building gay/straight alliances and much more.
“I am proud to have the support of Equality California,” said Butler. “For over twenty years I have had the privilege of working with leaders of the LGBT community throughout the country and in California on issues of fairness and equality. I look forward to continuing to work in the Legislature to ensure equal rights in California.”
The new 50th Assembly District stretches from West Hollywood to Malibu and sweeps south through the Palisades to Santa Monica.
Butler was elected to the California State Assembly in 2010.
