The National Weather Service warns powerful winds as high as 60 mph — 80 mph in the mountains — are expected to gust in areas across Southern California tonight.
In Santa Monica, gusts as high as 25mph are expected.
This raises the risk of a wildfires and exposing properties to damage.
The winds around the system, spinning counterclockwise, will push toward the ocean from the northeast, picking up speed as they whip through canyons and passes, the weather service reports.
Weather Service meteorologists will be keeping track of lowering humidity expected to accompany the high winds, and which could increase the danger of wildfire.
