On Friday, May 4, at 10:10 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were working foot patrol on Third Street Promenade when they received a radio request to go to Sephora, located at 1244 Third Street Promenade, so they did.
Before they arrived they received an update on their radio telling them that the suspect had fled the store and was last seen running eastbound on Arizona Ave.
Responding officers caught the suspect at Fourth Street and Arizona Avenue and detained her. The officers spoke with the loss prevention agents at Sephora who told them that the woman had entered the premises and selected two boxes of “Prosthetic Eyelashes.”
This woman then proceeded to conceal these eyelashes from sight by concealing them in a bag she was carrying.
Then, in the blink of an eye, she left the store without paying.
The officers searched the suspect’s bag and not only found the eyelashes, but also spotted other items with a total value of $375.75.
This 37-year-old homeless woman was placed under a private person’s arrest and taken to jail. Her bail was set at $5,000.
