On Tuesday, May 1, at 10:20 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine patrol in the 2100 block of the alley south of Pearl Street when they noticed a figure standing in the shadows of the darkened alley.
The officers approached and saw it was a man.
The officers asked the man if they could speak with him, and he responded in the affirmative. As the officers were chatting with this man they discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The officers then asked if they could search him and he agreed that they could.
During the search, the officers found a folded up napkin, which they opened.
The officers discovered this napkin contained 13 prescription codeine pills, sans prescription. The officers arrested this 55-year-old homeless man and he was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
His bail was set at $250.
