A Santa Monica police K9 team located and arrested one of two burglary suspects who attempted to break into a home on the 1000 block of Fifth Street earlier today.
Santa Monica Police Department Sgt. Richard Lewis said a resident called police at 3:41 p.m. after a suspect tried to enter the property through a window.
“When the suspect saw the resident he took off running,” Sgt. Lewis said. “The resident called 911 and officers responded and located two subjects running from the area.”
Lewis said a short pursuit ensued, which ended just a block away on Fourth Street.
He said a perimeter was set up between Fifth Street to Alley Three and from California to Washington.
“Search teams started a search pattern and one suspect was located with a K9 team,” he said. “He was bit by the dog with a minor injury and taken into custody without further incident.”
Officers are still searching for the second suspect.
The name of the suspect in custody has not been released because he had not yet been booked, but Lewis said there was a possibility he was a juvenile and his name will not be released.
