Santa Monica Conservancy’s 10th Birthday Bash Open To The Public Next Saturday:

An outdoor, public party will be held next Saturday, Oct. 13, 2-4 p.m. to celebrate the Santa Monica Conservancy’s 10th birthday.

The organization is dedicated to preserving the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.

The celebration will take place at the future site of the Conservancy’s Preservation Resource Center, housed in a rehabilitated 1890s shotgun house, in the parking lot across from the Ocean Park Branch Library, 2nd Street and Norman Place.

The event will feature docent-led tours of adjacent landmarks: the Ocean Park Branch Library (a Carnegie library built in 1904), the Merle Norman Office (former headquarters of a world-wide cosmetics company built in 1935) and the California Heritage Museum (former residence of the city’s founder Senator Roy P. Jones built in 1894).

Families may participate in an architectural scavenger hunt in the nearby Third Street Historic Neighborhood District and a booklet for self-guided tours of the District will be provided for all.

A live blue grass band, Brax Cutchin and the Lazy Roosters, cake, and giveaways will round out the festivities.

The 10th celebration is free to the public.

Parking is available in City lots of Main Street – or take advantage of the Big Blue Bus. Lines 1 and 8 stop at Ocean Park and Main.
