Santa Monica College Board Of Trustees Elects 2013 Chair, Vice-Chair:

The Santa Monica Community College District Board of Trustees has named its new leaders for 2013.

Dr. Nancy Greenstein has been elected chair succeeding Dr. Margaret Quiñones-Perez.

Dr. Susan Aminoff has been elected vice-chair succeeding Greenstein. These posts rotate annually.

This is the second time Greenstein is serving as chair, having previously held the post in 2006. Greenstein was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2002 and re-elected twice.

Director of Police Community Services at the UCLA Police Department since 1997, she has received national recognition for community policing programs and strategies for bringing together diverse groups and agencies to resolve various issues. She has also worked as the Public Safety Administrator in West Hollywood.

She has won several awards, including the prestigious Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, a national honor, in 2009; State Legislature Woman of the Year Award, in 2010; and the UCLA Educational Leadership Award.

Greenstein is the City of Santa Monica representative and the 2008 Chair of the Los Angeles County West Vector District Board. Previously she served as Chair of the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation and the Santa Monica Charter Review Commission and as a board member of the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is co-chair emeritus of Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights and active in a number of community organizations.

She is a current board member and past president of the Southern California ACLU. She also serves on the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center Board of Advisors Hospital, Inglewood-based Social Justice Learning Institute, which is dedicated to improving educational institutions and opportunities for underserved populations and the Broad Stage boards.

With such varied expertise, she is routinely called upon to consult with local governmental agencies, law enforcement and community groups regarding public safety, community partnerships, community relationships and problem solving.

Greenstein received her bachelor’s degree in education from Boston University, masters of social work with a community organizing specialty from UCLA, and a doctorate in education from UCLA.

Aminoff, a Santa Monica resident for 29 years, was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2004. She previously served as vice chair in 2006 and chair in 2007.

A retired professor of sociology at The Los Angeles Community College District, Aminoff has been active in several community college organizations and projects. She is Chair Emeritus of the Joint Labor-Management Benefits Committee of the Los Angeles College Guild.

She serves as an advisor to benefits committees throughout the state, and teaches a course in employee health benefits at the Los Angeles Trade Tech Labor Center.

She counsels retiring Los Angeles faculty on retirement and Medicare issues. While at L.A. Pierce College, she developed and administered the ENCORE Emeritus College for Lifelong Learning.

Dr. Aminoff currently serves on The Broad Stage Board of Directors.

She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from State University of New York at Stony Brook and a master’s in gerontology and master’s and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Southern California.
