Diner-style restaurant chain Steak ‘n Shake announced Friday it has signed a 10-year lease in Santa Monica on the Third Street Promenade near Broadway.
Steak ‘n Shake plans for a grand opening later this year, after completing certain tenant improvements to its space.
Steak ‘n Shake was founded in Norman, Illinois in 1934 by Gus Belt, who converted a combination gas station/chicken restaurant into a hamburger stand.
It is now headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The wholly-owned subsidiary of Biglari Holdings currently has more than 500 company and franchise-owned locations throughout the Midwest and Southern United States.
The brand intends to make its Santa Monica location a flagship store, as it executes a major expansion into the west coast.
