On Thursday, May 16, at 3:55 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to a hotel in the 1700 block of Ocean Avenue in order to investigate an assault.
When the officers arrived at the hotel they spoke with the victim, a man.
This man told them that he had been in the lounge enjoying a few cocktails when the suspect approached him and then engaged him in conversation.
The one thing that they had in common was that they were both staying at the hotel that evening.
The victim stated that this man was rather intoxicated, but that the conversation had been cordial.
After they had been enjoying convivial conversation for some time the victim had arisen and walked over the lobby restroom.
After entering said restroom the suspect came in and immediately attacked the victim, hitting him around the head with an unknown object.
The victim had fallen to the floor whereupon the suspect had continued the assault by kicking him multiple times.
The suspect then ran out of the restroom and fled through the front doors of the hotel, while the victim sought assistance in the hotel to treat multiple lacerations about his head and on his arm.
The suspect returned to the hotel at approximately 11:00 that morning in order to attend a conference at the hotel.
Staff immediately recognized him and police came back to the hotel and arrested him.
This 31-year-old Encino resident was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.
