The Santa Monica College Music Department has announced this year’s Fall Jazz Concerts, featuring Robert Kyle, George Kahn, and Ron Meza and Planet Afrobeat.
The series begins with Robert Kyle on Friday, Sept. 20. All concerts are held at 7 pm and 9 pm at The Edye Second Space at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, located on Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th Street. Tickets cost $10.
The Fall 2013 lineup is:
• Friday, Sept. 20: Robert Kyle – Brazilian Extravaganza. Tenor saxophonist Robert Kyle explores his deep passion for the music and culture of Brazil.
• Friday, Oct. 18: George Kahn. The extraordinary pianist George Kahn brings his all-star lineup to SMC for the first time.
• Friday, Nov. 15: Ron Meza and Planet Afrobeat. Composer-trumpeter and World Music specialist Ron Meza leads an 11-piece supernova in a program of jazz riffs and be-bop lines over a trance-like Afrobeat groove, featuring his original compositions.
