The Santa Monica United Boys 17 and Under soccer team is making some noise on the regional and national level this season. The SMU team is currently ranked No. 2 in Southern California and fourth in the region, according to the soccer website gotsoccer.com.
More impressive is that SMU, which boasts a 22-5-13 record, is ranked as the 22nd best club in the nation.
SMU’s Boys 17 and Under team is coming off a big win in the Adidas Cup over. Led by Cole Fletcher, the Santa Monica United Soccer team (Boys 17 and under) upended the Mexican Association Football Team from Tijuana, Mexico, 1-0 at UC Irvine.
This was a major win for the club, but also the players as well, as the Adidas Cup tournament is a showcase for Major League Soccer’s U-17 soccer academy squads.
But this group isn’t the only ones doing well representing the Santa Monica United Soccer Club. The Santa Monica United Soccer Club, which has over 450 players and 27 teams associated with it, has several other teams under its wing that are highly ranked in their respective age groups.
The club is made up of youths coming from all over Los Angeles County, including the South Bay, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
Santa Monica United’s Boys U19 (19 and Under) group is currently ranked third in Southern California, No. 7 in the region and 20th nationally. This group has posted a 25-4-13 mark. Santa Monica United also has a girls and boys youth teams that are ranked regionally and nationally.
Santa Monica United has four teams playing at the premier level, which is the highest level of competition a team can play in.
