A 55-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman who live together were arrested on Saturday, Nov. 2 after officers were unable to assign who was the primary aggressor in a fight that left them both with wound marks.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called to investigate a disturbance in an apartment in the 1800 block of Ninth Street at 11:30 am on this day.
When the officers arrived they found a man inside the apartment with significant scratches and blood on his face.
The officers spoke with this man. He told them that he was living with a woman and that he had requested that this woman leave the apartment.
He said that the woman had allegedly, upon hearing this news, thrown the television to the ground and began arguing with the man.
He said that he had attempted to scare the woman by throwing a shoe in her general direction.
The shoe had missed her, but in response to this, the woman had attacked the man using her sharp fingernails to inflict multiple scratches on his face.
The officers then spoke with the woman who said that she had been awakened from her slumber that morning by being hit by a shoe that had, she claimed, been thrown by the man.
She said that she had responded by scratching his face.
The officers did notice that the woman displayed a bruise on her face.
The officers were unable to assign primary aggression to either the man or the woman so they arrested both of them.
The woman, a resident of Santa Monica, was charged with spousal abuse. Bail was set at $75,000. The man, also of Santa Monica, was also charged with spousal abuse.
Bail information for the male was not available at time of going to press.
