Bail was set at $250 for a 58-year-old homeless man on Friday, Jan. 17 for public drunkenness and lying to police about his identity.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to a 7-11 convenience store at the intersection of 16th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard at 12:14 am on this day, after they had received a report of a man who was attempting to purchase alcohol in spite of him being observed by the staff at the store of being in a state of noticeable inebriation.
When they arrived the officers spoke with a clerk at the 7-11 who said that the man had a history of stealing alcohol from the store.
The man, when the police inquired as to who he was, lied.
He told them he was a person who he wasn’t and as a result the officers arrested him for lying and being intoxicated in public.
When the officers searched this man they discovered a pint bottle of vodka, which was, unsurprisingly, half-empty, or surprisingly still half-full, depending upon one’s optimism, pessimism, or love of vodka?
This homeless man was charged with giving false information and public drunkenness.
