SMMUSD’s Sandra Lyon Named Regional Superintendent Of The Year:

Region 14 of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), has named Sandra Lyon Superintendent of the Year due to her outstanding leadership.

ACSA Region 14 President, Katherine Castlebury will now forward Superintendent Lyon as Region 14’s nominee for State Superintendent of the Year.

SMMUSD Board Member Laurie Lieberman said she was thrilled for Lyon upon hearing the news.

“Sandy Lyon has the character, the leadership skills and the level of accomplishment to make her eminently worthy of this award,” Lieberman said. “She is an exceptional team-builder, communicator, and collaborative problem-solver who works tirelessly to address issues ranging from building systemic approaches to improve 21st century instruction and supporting professional development for teachers and staff to centralized fundraising and concerns about health issues in the workplace. We are so fortunate to have a Superintendent who views her work as an ‘occupassion.’ I’m so pleased for Sandy and thrilled that her peers in ACSA would recognize her in this way.”

The Association of California School Administrators was established in 1971. ACSA is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the nation, serving more than 14,500 school leaders.

ACSA Region 14 is one of 19 regions which divide the state geographically, and serves fourteen school districts within Los Angeles County including: ABC Unified, Bellflower Unified, Beverly Hills Unified, Centinela Valley Union High, Compton Unified, Culver City Unified, Downey Unified, El Segundo Unified, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach City, Inglewood Unified, Lawndale, Lennox, Long Beach Unified, Los Angeles County Office of Education, Lynwood Unified, Manhattan Beach Unified, Norwalk-La Mirada Unified, Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified, Paramount Unified, Redondo Beach Unified, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified, Torrance Unified, Wiseburn, and all community college districts and universities servicing these areas.
