Santa Monica police arrested a 64-year-old man on Wednesday Feb. 26 after using a hammer to injure another man during a fight inside a residence.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to a residence in the 800 block of Cedar Street at 3:50 pm on this day in order to investigate the report of a disturbance.
Upon arrival one of the officers was able to see through an open doorway and notice that a trio of people were involved in physical altercation.
The officer further noticed that one of the people involved was in position of a claw hammer whilst another was bleeding from his head (a possible connection?).
The officer entered the affray and soon broke it up. The officer also forced the person who was in possession of the hammer to drop it.
The officer then investigated and discovered that the victim had tried to enter the suspect’s apartment.
The suspect, upon seeing the victim, had reached over another person and hit the victim on the head with the hammer.
The victim had become angered by this and had attacked the suspect by punching him repeatedly.
During this exchange the victim had received two more blows to the head – courtesy of the hammer.
Eventually, the victim had been able to hold the suspect’s arm down until the police arrived.
Based upon the statements the officers arrested the suspect and he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Bail was set a $30,000.
