A man died at the scene when his pickup truck rear ended a big rig and caught fire on the northbound lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks early today.
The collision occurred near Ventura Boulevard at 12:55 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.
The motorist, speeding in a 2007 GMC, rear ended a 2006 Kenworth tractor/trailer and caught fire. The vehicle then struck the center divider, where it came to a rest, according to a CHP news statement.
The motorist in the tractor/trailer, a 61-year man from Texas, suffered minor injuries, according to the statement.
