More than $40 million in subsidies are available for Inglewood residents near Los Angeles International Airport who want to soundproof their homes, city officials and Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles, said Thursday.

The $44.3 million available is “critical for providing relief to Inglewood residents,” as well as schools and businesses near LAX, Waters said.

Los Angeles World Airports and the Federal Aviation Administration have made about $400 million available to Inglewood residents for airport-related mitigation since 1985, Waters said. About 5,300 homes have been fitted with double-pane windows and other insulation.

The funding now available will help pay for retrofitting about 1,030 homes with double-paned windows, insulation, solid-core doors and improvements.

The city of Inglewood distributes the grants. Applicants should call (310) 412-5289.
