Bail was not granted to a Santa Monica man on Friday, June 19, after the 21-year-old pushed his pregnant girlfriend to the ground during an argument.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Santa Monica-UCLA Hospital, located at 1225 15th Street, at 4:40 pm on this day in response to a call that dispatch had received from a social worker.
The social worker had told dispatch that she was concerned that her client (who was 35 weeks pregnant) had been assaulted by her boyfriend.
The officers went to the hospital and when they arrived the victim had been admitted to the labor and delivery department of the hospital.
The officers spoke with the victim who told them that at approximately 9 am that day she had been at home with her boyfriend and they had had become embroiled in an argument.
She said that during the argument the boyfriend and pushed her with both hands and the force had caused her to fall to the ground and land on her back.
She added that the boyfriend had then stood over her and had yelled insults at her.
She said that during the course of the day she had experienced worsening stomach pains and had emailed her social worker who had advised her to go to the hospital for medical treatment.
The officers located the boyfriend and arrested him.
This person was later charged with inflicting corporal injury upon a spouse and a violation of parole.
