Tongva Park Kicks Of Summer With Free Events June 10 & 20:

Tongva Park kicks off summer with two events, an evening concert of upbeat Afro-Latin urban roots music, and a family-friendly morning filled with the magic of puppet-making and performance.

On Wednesday, June 10, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Breitling Replica Watches Tongva After Dark presents the band Buyepongo.

The East LA group (whose name is slang for “to cause a ruckus”), draws from the traditional roots music of South and Central America.

Influenced by the sounds of Colombia, Mexico, Haiti, Belize, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, Buyepongo’s vibrant, tropical arrangements create a danceable beat that fuses merengue, punta and cumbia.

Bring a picnic and a blanket or chair, sit under the stars and be swept away by the passionate rhythms of Buyepongo at Tongva’s Gathering Hill.

On Saturday, June 20, from 10 am to 12 pm, The Puppet School, Los Angeles’ only puppeteer and puppet building training center, invites kids of all ages to use their imagination and creativity.

The morning of puppetry will include a hands-on puppet making workshop, and wandering puppeteers interacting with park visitors in Tongva’s Discovery Hill. Kids will also be able to create and perform their own puppet show.

Tongva Park is located at 1615 Ocean Ave., Santa Monica. This event is free and open to the public.

Tongva Park is centrally-located in Santa Monica’s Civic Center and is easily accessible by foot, bike, or bus.

Ample bike parking is located near each park entrance (Ocean Avenue, Main Street, and Olympic Blvd). Several Metro and Big Blue Bus lines have stops adjacent to the park.

Limited metered street parking is available. Parking is also available at the Civic Center Parking Structure (333 Civic Center Drive, enter off Fourth Street) – the first 30 minutes are free, $1 for each additional hour, up to a maximum of $5/day.

For updated information on programming, visit www.smgov.net/tongvapark/events.
